Before selecting Milligan Construction, we did a lot of due diligence researching many other custom builders in Montana. It was obvious Bob had the important attributes we needed to build our custom home in Big Sky. Bob’s experience and knowledge in all phases, from site planning and foundation to the fine craftsmanship of finish work, coupled with his hands on approach insured that his high expectation of quality was built into our home.

We were able to take advantage of Bob’s creative and cost-effective ideas throughout the building process. Building one house at time allows him to be focused on each home. Bob is an artisan and craftsman. He takes great pride in his work.

Bob’s high level of integrity made it easy for us to work with him and build our home from out of town. Likewise, his crew and subcontractors are great, hard working people who do excellent work. The respect they have for one another enables Bob access to the best.

Bob has lived and built custom homes in Big Sky for many years, giving him valuable experience and knowledge about building in southwest Montana (i.e. cold climate, snow loads, and seismic activity).

We have heard of many people who have had problems with their homes in Big Sky. We were lucky to have a builder who knew how to avoid these problems. There are not many Milligan homes in Big Sky. We feel very fortunate that ours is.

Our building process with Milligan Construction was a great experience from start to finish. Bob was helpful in making important suggestions using his extensive building experiences in the area. His constant attention to detail, his desire to build a quality home is clearly apparent in the finished product. Bob was on location daily making sure every aspect of the project was done to perfection and both he and his crew took great pride in their work. He was very good at communicating with us whenever decisions needed to be made and would give us ideas to consider well before final construction was begun. In the end, we are thrilled with our dream home and would highly recommend Milligan Construction for any building project.

When we retired in 1998 we decided to move full time to the Big Sky area. We had been coming to the Gallatin Canyon regularly since mid-1960 and had purchased a piece of property in 1993.

A local restaurant owner knew we were looking and recommended Milligan Construction.  He said usually Bob Milligan was booked three years out… And, he said, Bob was the best custom home builder in Big Sky.

We got an appointment with Bob … He was a no-nonsense guy whose word turned out to be his bond. Of course we asked for references, which he provided.  The first reference was the Sacagawea Inn in Three Forks, a historic landmark hotel… The manager minced no words. “If you can get him, sign up right now. He’s the best.”

Bob has a great team of employees… He salts his team with highly experienced, seasoned craftsmen.  He is also a hands-on contractor. He’s on the job with his tool box.  He’s a teacher as well as a builder and if any of his employees leave him they leave with more skill and knowledge than they arrived with.

There are not too many people or companies one can recommend without reservation. Milligan Construction Inc. and Bob Milligan are exceptions to the rule.

If Bob wasn’t the best builder in Big Sky – and we think he is – he’d be the best builder wherever he decided to go.
